Why Do I Keep Finding Spiders in My Home?
Spiders. Just one of the many pests you don’t want to see in your home, but seeing a spider in your home may be a good indication that there are bigger pest issues happening in your home. A spider’s diet consists of lots of other insects that you also don’t want in your home, so in some ways spiders are just helping to control something that you may not know you have an issue with. With that being said, controlling a spider problem may mean getting to the root of another pest issue.
Keeping Spiders Out of Your Home
Spiders, like all creatures, need a source of food. In Arizona, spiders live on a diet of mosquitoes, moths, flies and cockroaches. Larger spiders tend to go after larger prey like small lizards and small birds. In turn, lizards and birds eat spiders. This moves toward our next point, spiders in your home have discovered a good source of food. Here are a few tips to help control your unwelcome spider population.
- Make sure that access to your home is kept to a minimum. This means making sure that your weatherstripping around windows and doors is in good shape. Also make sure the screens on your windows are maintained and don’t have holes.
- Make sure trash in your home is taken care of properly. Keep your kitchen trash cans closed and make sure that trash doesn’t build up and is removed from the kitchen in a timely manner.
- Keep your floors and countertops clean. Make sure that you aren’t providing food for those other pests and this will in turn keep predators, like spiders, from having prey to hunt.
- Store food in sealable containers. This, again, will keep the spiders food source from having it’s own food source.
